February

28 February 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you are all doing well and had a chance to read and discuss your child’s report card with them. On my end, I held student-teacher interviews and we talked about the positives and the things to focus on and improve. We also discussed goals for Term 2 and what my role would be to help with that. February flew by and we are two weeks away from March Break. On Wednesday 1st, we will be holding the Bloorlea French Speech Contest and I strongly encourage everybody to participate. 7B will also be going on two trips, one happening this Thursday to the Cinéfranco French Film Festival and the other one next week to York University.

The students have spent the last 2-3 weeks mostly researching and writing their French dissertations. While their first draft lacked the quality and standard I expected from them, the significant majority took my advice, made the corrections and improvements, and submitted excellent good copies. Many of these papers are thought-provoking and raise important points. I’m very happy and proud of their hard work and efforts. Over the next few days, they will present their essays as a speech either as part of the contest or in class.

In Mathematics, we did a quick and short unit on Data Management looking at the different ways of classifying and categorizing data, as well as identifying it as primary or secondary. We are currently doing a probability unit which will conclude before we head into the break. Time-permitting, I will be asking the class to create probability games which will use both independent and dependent events as part of the rules and once ready, we may be able to play a few of them.

In Science, we successfully did our experiments pertaining to the 3 methods of heat transfer. It was a lot of preparation but a lot of fun and the pictures can be found on the website. We will now start a unit on ecosystems.

Extra-help:  Friendly reminder that extra help is available for any subject before and after school. A quick chat with me is sufficient to set up a time and day.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me at david.anseline@tdsb.on.ca.

I’ll take this opportunity to wish you a relaxing and enjoyable March Break.

Take care till then.

Warm regards,

D. Anseline
